As a project leader the Architectural Job Captain works on various projects as assigned by the Architectural Department Manager. He/she will report to the Project Manager responsible for each project, and to the Architectural Department Manager relative to general duties and overall job performance. He/she may oversee the entire design process or assist in a specialized design/technical role. The Architectural Job Captain may work on several concurrent projects
The Architectural Job Captain is experienced in all areas of architectural practice. This position is intended for the experienced architectural staff person who has not attained professional status.
The following duties are typical of the position but are not all encompassing. Each person is expected to help out in whatever duties are necessary for the Firm and Architectural Department to deliver a quality product on schedule.
Assess the requirements of a project, break a project into tasks, and work with a Project Manager and Department Manager to determine scope of work, budget and staffing.
Write scope of work for architectural design based on preliminary review and meetings with the client.
Be knowledgeable of applicable building and zoning codes. Work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception is required.
Assign and review work of project design team. Check progress of work and alert Project Manager to change of scope or additional services, and inform Department Manager of changing project staffing needs.
Coordinate all aspects of project design and document completion within company and externally with clients and other design professionals. Possess proficient written and oral communications skills.
Prepare or review project construction estimates.
Perform all construction administration activities on assigned projects. Demonstrate a thorough understanding of the construction process.
Promote use of and participate in development of company design and production standards.
Assist in the education and development of staff and act as resource for design and technical questions.
Maintain neat and organized work area allowing efficient access to project information required by other team members.
Maintain annual productivity goal of 80%.
Knowledge and Experience Required:
10 years previous architectural experience.
Bachelor of Architecture Degree.
Efficient use of the current version of AutoCad Architecture, knowledge of Revit.
Working knowledge of design/build delivery method is preferred
Encouraged to participate in technical and professional societies.
Keep current on the "state of the art" in the architectural practice through review of periodicals and continuing education.
Completion of professional license exam is encouraged.
