Reporting to the Design Services Manager, the Architect or Engineer will perform plan reviews to determine if construction documents meet the goals and the requirements of the Access Compliance Inspections and Audits. This is a fulltime position supporting a single major client’s ADA and CBC compliance goals.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
Ability to read and interpret construction documents, drawings, specifications and all applicable codes
Perform detailed plan reviews for compliance with ADA, CBC and access compliance program goals
Prepare reports and documentation of plan review findings
Update findings in database
Assemble access compliance surveys for execution which include planning, supporting project delivery methods, scheduling, and budgeting
Perform access compliance design review of various phases of construction documents for conformance with access compliance codes, standards, regulations, and client requirements unique to project type
Perform access compliance review of construction phase submittal documents such as Construction Bulletins, Requests for Information, and Contractor Submittals
Provide technical Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and California Building Codes (CBC) access compliance support for new construction, addition, and Tenant Improvement projects
Support and participate in the development and execution of access compliance program objectives
Work to be performed under the supervision (often virtual) of the Design Services Manager
Coordinate with multiple project teams on multiple ongoing construction projects at various locations throughout the State of California
This job may require travel and field work to be done inside prisons within the state of California.
Strong work ethic and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or Architecture is required
5-7 years or more of experience in Architecture, Engineering, or Construction industry is required
Licensed Architect (any state) or Professional Engineer (PE) in California strongly preferred
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision is required
Certified Access Specialist (CASp) is preferred
Strong working knowledge of ADA Title II and Title 24 California Building Codes is preferred
Prior experience with Construction (Contract) Administration is strongly preferred
Experience with corrections/prison environment and accessibility design is preferred
