The world’s most innovative design firm, Perkins+Will is looking for a strategic thinker to join the Boston office as the Operations Director. The position is a balance of practice and management, which will engage, facilitate and energize our management team in the success of our local, regional, and national practice. This role is to lead, manage and inspire business strategies with the senior leadership of our office.
The Operations Director will focus on finance, staff development, project management and business growth in our seven key markets including; Healthcare, Hospitality, Workplace, Education, Sports, Science+Technology and Commercial Planning, Architecture and Interior Design. Perkins+Will utilizes an interdisciplinary platform, and the Boston practice works with our regional partners in New York and Washington, DC to provide the highest quality Design and Service to our clients. Our office also collaborates with many of the 25 Perkins+Will offices worldwide. Ideally the Operations Director will establish protocols and provide oversight while still engaging in the practice as a project manager, specialist or designer.
More specific areas of focus for the Operations Director include:
Financial and Administrative Management
Support and collaborate with the Managing Director and Practice Leaders in providing strategic leadership, meeting financial goals and project performance, with direct daily management of financial/administrative operations and project delivery.
Development of office financial plan and managing the plan throughout the year.
Communicate closely with project principals, project designers and project managers in team building, project delivery, and quality assurance related to the firm’s work.
Oversee project labor and expenses, which will enhance greater project success.
Coordinate support staff participation in projects and office initiatives.
Collaborate with Human Resources and office leadership on employee relations, performance reviews, staff development, and compensation and benefits practices.
Represent the office to the firm at large, sharing and promoting best practices with firmwide operations leadership.
Become a central voice with Senior Leadership in project delivery
Review, monitor and approve project work plans including milestones, workflow, staffing and project budgets.
Review, monitor and forecast office staffing to meet project and office strategic goals and plans.
Assure adherence to budgets, monitoring all project earnings, collections and expenditures.
Lead project management reviews to improve project schedules, scope definition, budget and collection targets.
Focus project managers and team members toward improved project delivery, quality and profitability.
Design and Technical Leadership
Collaborate with Senior Design and Technical leadership to enhance our research and innovation-based practice.
Provide oversight of project delivery including project set-up, implementation and quality.
Organize periodic review of project documents and deliverables.
Monitor construction contract administration process and procedures.
Support the overall firm wide initiatives in sustainability, research, social responsibility and diversity with the office leadership
Review, approve and monitor fee proposals and contracts with respect to scope, fee and schedule issues.
Work with in-house Legal Counsel to create outstanding contract and agreements that protect our clients, consultants, and our teams from undue risk.
Professional Degree in Architecture, Interiors or other design-related profession
15+ years combined experience in design profession practice, project management and/or practice management
Enhanced knowledge of project design and project delivery
Requisite skills to achieve design and technical quality goals
Licensure and LEED AP
MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Knowledge of Deltek Vision is desirable
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and experience managing or directing project teams
