TEACHING POSITION(S) AVAILABLE AT CU-BOULDER, PROGRAM IN ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN
Description of Program:
The Program in Environmental Design (ENVD) at CU-Boulder is capitalizing on its strengths in pioneering undergraduate education in environmental design. We are hiring individuals who are excited to cultivate the next generation of environmental design professionals—including architects, landscape architects, urban designers, and city planners. For more than 50 years, our faculty have been forging new paths in interdisciplinary design thinking. Weaving together faculty, staff, undergraduate and graduate students, alumni and professionals, the ENVD community seeks to develop its ranks at the Instructor/Senior Instructor level and to push forward its reputation in advancing new approaches to environmental design education.
Overview of Job Duties:
Teaching. Successful applicant(s) will be energetic, committed to undergraduate education, and qualified to instruct students in a variety of capacities, including studios, large lectures, and seminars. In particular, the Program seeks experienced, versatile, and interdisciplinary individual(s) to teach one or more of the following courses:
- Studio core courses – sophomore and junior studios led by a coordinator focusing on building scale projects (ENVD 2120), larger than building scale projects, (ENVD 2130), and city and systems scale projects (ENVD 3100). The studio courses expose students to a sequence of investigations that lead to the development of concepts and the critical evaluation and context of design.
- Community engaged/community service design courses potentially in partnership with sponsoring clients. (i.e., praxis),
- Upper level junior or senior architecture studio
- Large lectures in one or more of the following areas (human behavior and design, materials and methods, site planning)
Other teaching opportunities may arise depending on the ambitions and the needs of the Program and the skill sets and talents of individuals.
Service. The appointment includes service to the Program in Environmental Design and University (e.g., thesis committees, other programmatic committees, student recruitment, etc.). This is an important aspect of the position, consisting of at least 20% of the contract and annual merit evaluation.
These positions are at the level of instructor or senior instructor and are regular nine-month, non-tenure track positions (80% teaching, 20% service for full-time positions). Three-year appointments are anticipated. The full-time salary for these positions will be commensurate with experience and range from mid 60s to low 70s, with full benefits. In exceptional circumstances, part-time positions might be available and would be prorated, with full benefits.
It is expected that the successful candidate(s) will be available to start August 15, 2017.
