The NYC Transit Department of Subways Maintenance of Way division is seeking a Senior Director, Architecture & Planning. MOW is comprised of six functional areas: Electrical Division, Track Division, Infrastructure Division, Elevators & Escalators Division, Engineering Division, and Electronics Maintenance Division. This position is located at 2 Broadway, in lower Manhattan.
The Senior Director is responsible for the space planning & project management of office and related facility renovation for all owned and leased properties. This involves directing landlord-obligated facility renovation projects through completion/move-in, and ensuring they meet established budget and schedules. The incumbent shall also assist MOW/DOS in the planning, designing and construction of crew and other facilities at subway locations to support daily operations. In addition, the Senior Director will manage MTA NYCT’s office space portfolio to assure efficient and optimized use of owned/leased office space. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: short and long-term strategic planning; directing design, construction management, space programming, project estimating and scheduling; evaluation of space utilization and developing/exploring alternatives to reduce MTA NYCT’s office space costs; allocation of office space for disaster recovery & business continuity; leased property management and tenant management, and maintaining a Transit-wide office space allocation database of transit-leased and owned office space. Additionally, the incumbent must be prepared to respond to emergencies/other critical occurrences as required on a 24 hour 7 day basis and represent the Assistant Chief Officer, as required in his/her absence.
- In-depth knowledge of building codes and safety regulations, experience in real estate leasing and construction, security initiatives, current office trends, products and applications.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts, e.g. drawings, planning scenarios and data to non-technical users.
- Excellent technical, financial and communications skills.
- Experienced with AutoCAD and facility management platforms such as Tririga.
- Strong interpersonal skills in order to deal effectively with high level client representatives and frequently mediate negotiations over conflicting interest for available space.
Education & Experience
A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in architecture or a closely related field of study, and 9 years of full-time related experience, of which five (5) years must have been in managerial/supervisory capacity; or -
A satisfactory combination of education and experience.
However, all applicants must possess a valid NYS Registered Architect (R.A.) license.
