The Onyx Group is adding Project Architects for our Architecture Team in our Alexandria, VA office. Qualified candidates need at least a Bachelor's degree in Architecture, a minimum of 10-12 years of related work experience and US Citizenship.
Candidates must be a licensed architect and have solid experience as a Project Architect on small to medium sized projects in a range of building design sizes and types. Excellent communication and technical skills as well as a strong team player approach are required. Candidates must be proficient using AutoCad and/or REVIT and be able to not only produce quality construction documents him/herself, but also guide other production staff in the preparation of such. Experience in both design-bid-build and design-build projects is desired as well as experience in successfully facilitating interdisciplinary coordination, integrating sustainable design criteria and executing construction administration. Candidates should possess project and construction experience, including direct client contact, in the Federal/DOD, Industrial, Commercial/Retail, and/or Education markets. Strong organizational skills along with written/verbal communication skills and the ability to work easily with clients, team members, consultants and other Onyx Design staff are also essential.

Working with us, you will:
Be able to independently provide the full range of architectural services on a small to medium-sized project
Find technical solutions to deliver the design through documentation and detailing while preserving the design intent.
Be able to prepare, coordinate, and complete a construction documents package.
Lead coordination of consultants of all disciplines.
Prepare, develop, and edit specifications.
Evaluate, select and/or approve materials and products.
Refine and further develop design concepts given by others.
Create and develop planning and design concepts for more complex projects.
Oversee design work of others to ensure an integrated and cohesive design.
Present design solutions to client representative and/or design review committees.
Supervise the development of renderings for client presentations.
Manage one or more small to medium-sized projects (including negotiating and proposing fee/labor rates, project scope, job production and quality, fee management and collection)
Evaluate job performance and organize and lead team meetings involving consultants and/or owners.
Establish and maintain project staffing requirements consistent with contractual obligations.
Provide oversight and monitoring of the work performed by junior staff.
Follow and enforce quality control procedures.
Coordinate all trades and agencies related to building design to preserve design intent.
Obtain agency approvals on construction documents.
Mentor and train junior and intermediate staff.
Participate in the preparation of proposals after being given the vision and strategy for the marketing effort.
Maintain and develop relationships with past, current and new clients.
An ideal candidate has:
10-12 years of experience with a professional degree in Architecture
LEED AP or LEED AP BD+C or LEED GA accreditation preferred.
Architectural Registration required
High proficiency with REVIT, AutoCAD, Sketch-up, Photoshop, Illustrator and In-Design programs.
Ability to travel
Ability to produce and coordinate a complete set of construction documents for permitting and bidding on small to medium-sized projects.
Ability to demonstrate effectiveness in working in a multidiscipline team setting, communicating with others, customer satisfaction and technical competence.
Security Clearance or ability to obtain one.
US citizenship required as condition of government contracts.
