The UPMC Sign Planning & Design team, part of UPMC Corporate Construction, is in search of an Owner's Representative/Senior Project Manager to oversee Phase 1 of the UPMC Exterior Signage Rollout project.
This project involves the replacement of all existing exterior signage at UPMC's various facilities. The Project Manager will be responsible for overseeing the ongoing work of signage design, fabrication and installation vendors; managing the project budget, schedule, approval process, and other project details; and acting as a liaison between vendors, UPMC Corporate Construction staff, and various UPMC hospitals and related facilities.
The duration of Phase 1 of the project is from June 2017 through December 2018. Upon completion, the Project Manager will be considered for Phase 2, January 2019 through December 2021.
The Project Manager will be hired as an independent contractor, with office space provided at UPMC Corporate Offices located in the USS Building in downtown Pittsburgh.
The owner’s rep/senior project manager, to be referred to as “Project Manager”, will be responsible for the day to day management of UPMC’s Exterior Signage Rollout project.
This project involves the replacement of all existing exterior signage at UPMC’s various facilities. Current and obsolete signage is to be removed; new signage is to be implemented.
UPMC has hired or will hire various Architectural signage design and production Vendors to do the following:
Meet UPMC project goals, including implementation of UPMC brand at all UPMC locations (20+ hospitals, 100+ outpatient centers and clinics, 400+ physician offices); improve patient experience through enhanced wayfinding and display of information; replace or remove old, damaged or obsolete signage; achieve cost savings through implementation of new technology
Conduct audit of all exterior signage and create database of existing signage at all UPMC locations
Establish design methodology and create new sign types, per needs identified in audit
Prepare project schedules and budgets
Revise and update all sign types to current version of brand, create detailed construction drawings and specifications, document into new UPMC Exterior Signage Manual
Conduct site planning & wayfinding services, and program and design/layout all signage
Fabricate and install signage at all locations
The project manager will oversee the on-going work of Signage Design, Fabrication, and Installation vendors; act as Liaison with UPMC corporate and hospitals, and provide design and fabrication vendors with all information as needed to keep the project running smoothly.
The duration of Phase 1 of this project is June 2017 through December 2018. Upon successful completion, the project manager will be considered for Phase 2, January 2019 through December 2021
This is not a staff position. The project manager will be hired as an independent contractor. The project manager will provide a proposal for work based on the contractor’s hourly rate, plus travel and business reimbursements, and will receive a Purchase Order from UPMC. The project manager will invoice UPMC against the PO.
The project manager will have office space in UPMC’s Corporate Offices at USS Building, 600 Grant Street, downtown Pittsburgh. Duties will also include occasional day time travel to various UPMC locations through Western Pennsylvania and beyond. Work hours are 8 hours/day, 40 hours/week; schedule is somewhat flexible.
Substantial, proven experience in one or more of the following disciplines: Signage Project Management, Construction Project Management, Brand Management, Signage/Environmental Graphic Design
Three-dimensional visualization and ability to read blueprints and other architectural documents
Knowledge of signage specifications, manufacturing, and installation
Degree in Signage Technology/Management/Production, Industrial Design, Graphic Design, Environmental Design, Communications, Architecture, Construction Management, Engineering, Project Management, Business, or a related field
Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 15 years of professional experience, OR Associates Degree and 17 years of experience; OR High School Diploma and 19 years of experience
Superior project management, communication (verbal and written) and organizational skills. Budgeting, scheduling, review, approval management abilities.
Experience with Microsoft Office projects, primarily Excel and Word. (Experience with Google Drive, Filemaker, Adobe Illustrator, Adobe In Design a plus)
Experience in the health care field a plus
Ability to travel to various UPMC facilities
