Urbane NewHaven is a small design-build firm based in New Haven, Connecticut. We’ve been building better spaces, ideas and connections for over 20 years. Our portfolio is packed with residential and commercial projects that have earned us a reputation as one of the most recognized real estate developers throughout New Haven County.
New Haven is known as the Cultural Capital of Connecticut. Our office is located just steps away from the vibrant downtown area in our newest venture, an adaptive reuse campus. We’re an interdependent group and work collaboratively on every project.
why we do it:
We strongly believe that architectural design is an opportunity to make our world more enjoyable. The built environment influences how we feel, think and live. We’re dedicated to our goal of building more than just spaces, but creating environments that positively influence our quality of life.
who we’re looking for:
A motivated and ambitious Designer. You have 3-6 years of architectural and design experience (or something in a related field – please tell us!) and have a strong knowledge of all phases of design. You’re organized, a self-starter, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and are able to work collaboratively with a team.
Be prepared to hit the ground running. From day one you will be involved in all the projects we have in the works, including ground-up developments, renovations and restorations from concept to completion. Your goal is to produce inspired, functional, efficient designs. We have wonderful partnerships and exciting projects that demand innovation and quality. Our open concept office layout makes it easy to share ideas, questions and stories.
Our office is just outside of downtown in the newly minted innovation campus. We are a fast-paced design build company that is working on a wide breadth of projects, including: a restaurant/brewery/beer garden, boutique hotels, condos, custom homes, a technology incubator, a school, and a multifaceted gym. As designers, we are always looking to create spaces of value for people to enjoy and prosper in. We are committed to excellence in the built environment.
As a young, growing company we are looking for an architectural designer to join our team full time. The candidate should have a commitment to design excellence and the built environment, and an interest for urban renewal and adaptive reuse projects. An architectural degree is not required but demonstrates the commitment to design we are looking for. Above all we are looking for someone who is interested in learning, growing and keeping up in our fast-paced environment.
The Designer reports to our Lead Designer and is responsible for working collaboratively with our design team, as well as taking ownership of their own projects and bringing them through all phases of design. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working on projects in which we are the developer, as well as projects in which we design for our partners. A person with a passion for design and dedication to bring that vision to life is the best fit for this position.
Work collaboratively with the Design Team, clients, and other firms as required by project.
Take ownership of specific projects and see them through all phases of design.
Must be able to work independently and keep projects on schedule without continuous oversight by the Lead Designer.
Understand and comply with constraining factors such as city and state planning regulations, environmental impact and remediation, and project budgets.
Adapt and adjust plans according to changes in building plan and issues that may arise.
General understanding of construction techniques and processes.
Coordinate with construction Project Manager for permit sets.
Traveling to job sites, as needed, for client meetings and planning purposes.
Follow the Company’s best practices.
Client service: Treats internal and external clients, vendors, and subcontractors as partners.
Lifelong learning: Continually builds own knowledge and expertise.
Integrity and ethics: Makes decisions and acts with the Company’s long term interest in mind.
Attention to detail: Thoroughness in accomplishing tasks in all areas involved, no matter how small.
Team player: Leverages own strengths and demonstrates understanding of weaknesses to most effectively contribute to a project.
Demonstrates a sense of urgency: Acts with an insatiable need to get things done - can be counted on to get things done on time and with excellent quality and results.
Urbane NewHaven is an equal opportunity employer. Applications from women, persons with disabilities, and underrepresented minorities are welcome.
We have all the equipment you’ll need – but we ask that you have a proficiency in Auto CAD, Revit, Adobe Creative Suite, SketchUp, and Google Drive, as well as a strong passion for the finishes and details to see a project through to completion. An eye for good design and the ability to problem solve is imperative.
