Develop designs, specifications and documents for major and technically complex building projects implementing creative architectural design solutions.
Create visionary planning documents and presentations.
Plan projects from inception to completion.
Estimate manpower, schedule work and coordinate/direct architects and engineers.
Perform activities related to procurement and budgeting costs, and in the design, construction and final acceptance of buildings. Review progress and evaluate results.
Research and propose solutions to architectural design and engineering problems, and provide analyses of alternatives to management.
Provide and implement changes in methods, design or equipment in assigned area and contribute to the overall safety and completion of assignments.
Develop specific instructions and provide technical direction to draftspersons, architects, designers, less senior architects and engineers, and other associates and technicians.
Contribute to setting lab-wide engineering policies, design standards and technical standards. Develop design standards that are contextual in nature, recognizing and responding to the laboratory’s unique history, character and culture.
Review work of others and present to management. Interface broadly with all levels of laboratory management, communicating concepts and ideas, and receiving and incorporating feedback within iterative processes leading to final designs.
Serve on Laboratory Campus Facilities Planning Board, other subcommittees and ad hoc groups.
May supervise an engineering/technical team or Department as assigned.
Communicate and present to all levels of laboratory management both written and orally.
Abide by and is responsible for performing all duties in accordance with all environmental, health and safety regulations and practices pertinent to this position.
We Are Looking For
Bachelor of Architecture (5-year degree) and 10+ years of relevant work experience or Masters of Architecture and 8+ years of relevant work experience
Licensed Architect in the State of Illinois or the ability to attain in 4 years.
Experience developing specifications and documents for major and technically complex engineering projects and creative engineering design solutions
Experience performing a variety of moderately complex engineering techniques
Design experience and technical competence for new science research facilities with a laboratory component in university, federal, corporate or similar
USGBC LEED Accreditation
Experience with Autodesk AutoCAD and building information models in Autodesk Revit, and Sketchup
Experience with Adobe CC software including Photoshop, InDesign and Illustrator
