The Montgomery County Planning Department in Silver Spring has an opening for a Master Planner/Supervisor for the Area 1 Division Regulatory Review Team. The Area 1 Division develops master plans and reviews development applications for the portion of Montgomery County, Maryland, located inside the Capital Beltway, and shapes the urban centers of the County.
The position of Master Planner/Supervisor will lead a team overseeing the regulatory review and analysis of development applications, including sketch plans, preliminary plans, and site plans, as well as zoning and conditional use requests. The ideal candidate is motivated, creative, and will have outstanding analytical and critical thinking capabilities, design experience, and a proven record of providing leadership and negotiating successfully for the highest quality design and development. The candidate should have a strong understanding of the design process, zoning, planning, community engagement, and development potential inside the beltway. This position requires extensive experience in project leadership and development coordination. The ideal candidate must also demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, and the ability to work directly with residents, developers, planners, architects, engineers, attorneys and public officials to achieve desired outcomes. This position will be required to foster the implementation of master plans for targeted planning areas. Fieldwork and occasional evening and weekend meetings are required. Applicants called for an interview should bring a writing sample and be ready to discuss the regulatory process and their experience negotiating improved project design.
Master Planner: Master's degree in planning, architecture, parks, engineering, environmental science, public administration, or related fields and six years of progressively responsible professional level planning experience that included at least three years of project leadership and coordination experience; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.
