This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing all activities, projects, and personnel within the Architectural Department. This position will act as a liaison both internally and externally for Architectural services by interacting with Market Sector Leaders, Director of Design, Project Managers, clientele, consultants, vendors AND LEO A DALY personnel at Dallas and other LAD offices to continue the development of a culture of design.
Will be a recognized leader in Design and work closely with Managing Principal, Director of Operations & Sr. Project Managers to execute projects to the highest quality, on time, on budget and in a collaborative environment.
Establish strategic goals, requirements, policy and processes for design staff. Be responsible for the overall design quality of projects and collaborate within the studio to foster a strong design culture.
Maintain contact with the clients regarding design and strategic issues.
Troubleshoot design delays and oversee design schedule.
Review and approve design plans and provide design direction and periodically review all projects to ensure that quality standards and design requirements are being adhered to.
Responsible for mentoring junior architects & interior designers and for providing recommendations on design and layout methodologies.
Will ensure compliance with the local building codes/agencies and sound planning and design principles.
May assume responsibility as either “Design Principal” or “Principal-in-Charge” of projects.
This position will require mentoring staff and solidifying the team in order to execute large quantities of work.
The Design Director will be an integral part of the leadership team of the office and must be an active participant in Client Management and Business Development.
Bachelor’s Degree (minimum) in Architecture from a recognized and accredited institution
LEED Certification a plus
Demonstrated experience in leading or significantly contributing to the design of projects within our Hospitality primary market
Fifteeen plus years of design experience with the last five years as a recognized design leader in a world-class architectural firm.
Supervisory ability and interpersonal skills to engage and manage multiple project teams.
Superior communication skills, including graphic, written and oral communications plus knowledge in all aspects of computer literacy.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with both private and institutional clients, consultant design and engineering professionals, and representatives of various agencies.
Have large scale project experience. Ability to understand, read and apply project “financials” concerning fees, budgets, man hours, expenses and profitability
Must possess skills in conflict resolution.
