We are currently looking to hire for two positions. We are looking for one position for an intern with 3-5 years of experience in single family residential architecture. We are looking for a 2nd more experienced project architect with 5 plus years of residential architecture and interior design experience working on single family custom homes, additions and historic preservation. Fortunately, due to husbands and wives extended times together and realizing that they need to improve their homes, and desire to have 2nd homes that are within driving distance, we have a significant number of renovations and custom homes in and around the DC area, as well as several in the surrounding Chesapeake Bay Area and mountains. We are looking for hard workers with passion for detail and for crafting highly detailed drawings. Understanding of wood construction, historic preservation, interior design and detailing of millwork, technical understanding of building structure, electrical, mechanical and technical sides of homes and ability to produce construction documents is important. We produce most projects in sketch up for 3-d and 2-d and auto cad architecture for plans, sections and details. Our projects have a variety of styles, from modern ski homes at Snowshoe, West Virginia, a more rustic new cabin overlooking a river off the mountain in Snowshoe, a modern Spanish Colonial in Great Falls with pool, tennis court and pool pavilion, historic properties in NW DC, expansion and renovation of a Sears and Roebuck craftsman and a sculptural 3 tiered structure and backyard oasis in Arlington. We handle all aspects of design for our clients, from architecture to interiors, to landscape and hardscape design and are looking for architects that want to continue to develop their skills and experience. Construction experience is very important to us because we are also very involved in construction administration and on site work with our contractors. Our drawings define everything for our contractors and to do so takes a deep understanding of construction and detailing. All of our current staff has wood shop experience and construction hands on experience. We are modeling all of interior and exteriors on sketch up and rendering softwares so 3-d software is very important and we will not hire anyone without this ability. All of our staff has been with us for more than 5 years and we are hoping to find people that are willing to stay for a long time and learn how we do things and grow with us.
Good command of the written and spoken English language, good command of auto cad architecture, Revit, sketch up, good drawing and sketching ability, Architecture degree, good understanding of residential wood construction. Microsoft excel important for budget work with contractors.
Additional Salary Information: $55,000 - $100,000 plus benefits, will depend on experience

Office is in the Palisades in NW DC. Projects mostly in DC area and surrounding retirement areas - beach, bay and mountains. Some work in WV, PA, and have a current project in CA.
Projects are fun and detail oriented, with clients that are looking for outside the box thinking and want a crafted and unique product. We stay heavily involved in construction oversight and work in coordination with great carpenters, masons and tradesmen to produce homes that are one of a kind and fit our clients' families well.
To us, designing in harmony with the environment is not a fad but a responsibility and we are taking advantage of the green movement educating our clients. We have several projects using solar, geothermal and wind .. and all of our projects use green products and philosophies. We love what we do and are looking for people who share a passion for the details. We feel we are a good contrast to a large firm environment ... and offer a ver...y steep learning curve as we are involved in all phases of projects and therefore employees learn about all phases of architecture.
Seth Ballard had always joked that when all of his 4 kids were teenagers and stopped caring if they saw him that he would return to Commercial architecture. His youngest is now 13 and the firm has taken on select commercial projects for clients that are building their own projects. These clients are long time friends and with the close relationship, we now feel comfortable moving back into commercial.
The firm has been lucky to keep our staff of 4 full time employees and two part time busy throughout Covid 19 and now are looking to hire a few more employees to help us to grow our commercial arm.
