Position Summary

Southern Land Company, a national real estate development and construction firm headquartered in Nashville, TN is seeking a full-time Director of Single Family Architecture to join our dynamic team.

This position requires an individual who is creative and passionate about their work and responsive to a collaborative design environment. The successful candidate should also have excellent written and verbal communication skills, a strong ability to multitask, and a tremendous ability to stay organized.

Primary Responsibilities

• Lead a small single family architecture studio in all creative aspects of individual custom and speculative residential projects.
• Coordinate, schedule and review all phases of design and documentation from initial concept through construction documentation.
• Staff management, leadership, and mentorship.
• Manage the submittal and design review processes for each Southern Land Community.  Includes streetscape, architectural and exterior material review.
• Seek an ongoing knowledge of the successful trends within the residential design industry.
• Maintain a high level of customer service.
• Manage revisions and maintenance of the Single Family Residential AutoCAD standards library.
• Perform site visits with staff to develop their understanding of construction practices and sound design principles.
• Manage and/or create contracts for design services.
• Financial responsibility for the studio.
• Director will work closely with Senior Vice President of Design.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience

• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
• Able to travel within the U.S.A.
• Ability to keep sensitive information highly confidential
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to deal professionally with clients, vendors, and co-workers on the phone and in person.
• Excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to take initiative, use good judgment, demonstrate a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail, and carry multiple projects through to completion.
• Ability to work independently, prioritize work and ask for further clarification when necessary.
• Ability to work under pressure with tight time constraints, as well as the ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent change, delays, or unexpected events.

Education and Experience

• Proficiency in the following technical programs:  AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Word and Excel
• Bachelor’s degree in Architecture or related field from an accredited school
• 8+ years related experience with Single Family design

Preferred Qualifications

• SketchUp, Photoshop and/or InDesign knowledge
• AIA certification is not required, but beneficial
