Our StoryBuilt design team is growing! With multiple projects in design or acquisitions in all of our four markets (Austin, Dallas, Seattle and Denver), our Austin-based architectural team is ramping up to design many beautiful communities together. Whether it's a townhouse development or a 10-acre project with apartments, condos, offices and retail, we're gearing up to design and build throughtful urban spaces on challenging urban infill sites.
The Project Architect/Designer at StoryBuilt is the primary responsible party for the execution of StoryBuilt architectural projects. With support from design, management and quality control leadership as well as support staff, the Project Architect/Designer will create all project documentation and be responsible for all coordination with consultants. This role will be the primary point person for the construction team at StoryBuilt.
Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Design Phases (Land Planning and Schematic Design:)
Analyze land entitlements, zoning regulations and building code
Collaborate with project team to iterate concepts for land plans and buildings
Maintain project spreadsheets and calculations
Review documentation of work completed by support staff. Drawing and modeling assistance will be required at some stages of the project, depending on size, scope, etc.
Create all presentations and present work to internal teams at StoryBuilt for approvals
Construction Documentation Phases:
Act as the daily go-to for all consultants. Coordinate work with consultants and manage schedule.
Coordinate land plan with civil engineering team
Perform building code analysis and verify all code related items during the design and production of documents
Review documentation of work completed by support staff. Drawing and modeling assistance will be required at some stages of the project, depending on size, scope, etc
Manage construction document production, including drawing set layout
Permit buildings, with coordination and assistance from civil, development and construction teams.
Coordinate with and provide documentation for internal teams (construction, marketing, sales, property management, etc.)
Review documents for clarity, compliance, and completeness at regular intervals
Construction Administration Phase:
Perform site visits as required by the project. Generate RFI’s and follow through/direct responses as required
Produce architectural sketches and plan revisions
Review and log all submittals
Coordinate all construction documentation issuances with StoryBuilt operations teams
Communication with all parties on the project team regarding schedule, deliverables and milestones
Behave proactively to find project solutions and be open to innovative approaches to complicated projects
Collaborate willingly and passionately with all project stakeholders
Bachelor (5 yr.) or Master Degree in Architecture.
Architectural license is preferred, but not required. Without license, position title will be Project Designer.
6+ years working in an architectural office, with the following experience:
Coordinating site design and knowledge of local zoning codes
Coordinating work with consultants. Ability to review structural, MEP, landscape and civil drawings thoroughly
Working through design and production of drawings, from schematic design through construction documents, on a variety of building types
Ability to put together a set of CD’s with minimal supervision by others
Exposure to project pro formas and budgets.
Working knowledge of IBC and IRC.
2+ years of construction observation
Experience with reviewing submittals and shop drawings
Presenting ideas in a succinct, clear and professional manner
Software: Expertise in Revit, AutoCAD and Adobe Suite. Knowledge of Sketchup and Enscape is preferred but not necessary
2+ years experience in mixed-use and/or multi-family drawing production and construction administration is preferred
Located in Austin, Texas. This is not a remote-working position.
Compensation and Benefits:

Our employees have been working remotely since March of 2020. As of May of 2021, some employees have returned to the office, and some are continuing to work from home. While we will continue to allow for flexibility in where people work, we are setting the expectation that our design team be located in Austin by late summer/early fall of 2021, so we can at least work partially in the office together at that time.
