Derivi Castellanos Architects is a mid sized architecture firm with offices in San Jose and Stockton CA.

We are seeking a qualified individual for the position of Senior Designer Job Captain at both offices.

Responsibilities extend to all facets of project delivery with expectations for design collaboration and skillful production in detail. Experienced candidates preferred although early-career candidates are welcome to respond if demonstrating exceptional capabilities.  Excellent communication skills will be essential along with self-motivation and confidence in working with project teams including consultants and clients.

Senior Designer/Job Captain – Architectural Firm

Abilities and Responsibilities:

• Ability to create documents in AutoCAD/Revit to construct a building or remodel of a building
• Knowledge of system engineering related to architectural documents, such as Civil, MEP and Structural
• Manage a Team of Drafters/Designers to complete a set of architectural documents in AutoCAD/Revit
• Ability to review and provide direction to a Team on how to correct work prior to being distributed
• Ability to take written and verbal direction in development of architectural documents; through mark-ups, sketches and review of existing information to develop Construction Documents, Details, Exhibits, etc.
• Ability to create and edit supporting architectural documents, such as Specifications, Spreadsheets, Transmittals, Reports, Schedules, etc.
• Ability to manage Architectural Consultants, such as Civil Engineers, MEP Engineers, Structural Engineers, FS and FA Engineers
• Ability to survey existing conditions; taking accurate and legible field dimensions, measurements and notes of existing conditions
• Ability to conduct jobsite observations and communicate coordination items during Construction Administration

Required Knowledge, Skills and Experience:

• AutoCAD Skills; minimum of 5 years
• College Level schooling in Architecture; minimum of 3 years; or Drafter in Construction/Manufacturing; minimum 5-7 years
• Construction Administration experience; minimum of 3 years; or Construction/Manufacturing experience; minimum of 5 years
• Excel and Word Proficient
• Team Management/ Leader role experience
• Experience with DSA

Desirable Skills and Experience:

• Revit Skills; minimum of 2 years preferred
• Sketch-up skills; minimum of 2 years preferred
• Degree in Architecture
• Started/Completed NCARB’s ARX Program or taking Licensing Exams
• Drafting experience with an Architectural Firm; minimum of 5 years preferred
• Knowledge of School Construction
• Knowledge of Steel and Wood Construction
• Knowledge of Quality Control/Assurance Methods
• Microsoft Project Proficient or other scheduling techniques; provide examples
• CSI Specification experience
