ENVELOPE Architecture + Design is seeking a qualified and motivated candidate to join our small, award-winning firm. ENVELOPE has a diverse business strategy which includes architecture and design services, small run fabrication projects, an interim use development project in San Francisco and a 501c3 nonprofit that supports studio-directed cultural programming. We are looking for someone who can handle the day-to-day financial operations as well as assist with financial strategy for the firm. This role will evolve based not only on the needs of the office, but on your strengths, skills, and interests. We see this role as an incubator for a smart, ambitious, motivated person to grow into an invaluable part of our firm.
Responsibilities include:
Manage cash flow, expenses and accounts receivable for three lines of business each with separate accounting software and accounts.
Analyze the profitability of projects and business lines.
Advise on new project fee projections and contracts.
Work with staff to manage their project time.
Invoice clients.
Run payroll.
Make bi-weekly employer contributions to our company 401k plan.
Create annual expense budget.
Report biweekly on budget-to-actuals.
Administer time tracking system and ensuring user compliance.
Create ad hoc analyses and financial modeling as needed.
Handle all miscellaneous financial inquiries from within and from outside the firm.
Prepare end of year documents for our tax accountant for two lines of business.
Submit annual tax forms for our small 501c3 nonprofit.
Assist in ongoing B-Corp application and certification process.
Additional preferences and opportunities for growth
Experience with communications and marketing; crafting and posting compelling content across social media accounts, new business and press inquiries, curating website updates, proposal, RFP and RFQ submissions.
Basic IT knowledge; troubleshoot with support from outside IT personnel, ability to install and configure software, organize and schedule upgrades.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
3+ years experience in professional services. A/E/C industry preferred.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate financial concepts to those without a finance background.
An interest in working in a fast-paced, collaborative, energetic environment.
Knowledge of / Experience with BQE CORE, Quickbooks and Gusto Payroll Services is preferred.
Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, proficiency with other Microsoft Office and/or iWork (Pages, Numbers)Experience managing a diverse business strategy is preferred.
Other Requirements / Compensation:
This position is expected to be part-time at approximately 30 hours per week, with one to two days per week of in-person work at our Berkeley office. The salary for this position is competitive for similarly-sized firms and based on experience and qualifications. Additionally, we provide health insurance, paid vacation + holidays, as well as optional enrollment in vision + dental insurance and a retirement program.
