About Ballard + Mensua Architecture, Washington, DC
Ballard+Mensua is dedicated to providing tailored design and construction management service to residential clients for crafted custom homes, renovations and historic preservations and now multi-family residential on a smaller scale. Office is in the Palisades in NW DC. Projects mostly in DC area and surrounding retirement areas - beach, bay and mountains. Some work in WV, PA, and have current projects in Arizona and California.
Projects are fun and detail oriented, with clients that are looking for outside the box thinking and want a crafted and unique product. We stay heavily involved in construction oversight and work in coordination with great carpenters, masons and tradesmen to produce homes that are one of a kind and fit our clients' families well.
To us, designing in harmony with the environment is not a fad but a responsibility and we are taking advantage of the green movement educating our clients. We have several projects using solar, geothermal and wind .. and all of our projects use green products and philosophies. We love what we do and are looking for people who share a passion for the details. We feel we are a good contrast to a large firm environment ...... and offer a very steep learning curve as we are involved in all phases of projects and therefore employees learn about all phases of architecture.
Seth Ballard had always joked that when all of his 4 kids were teenagers and stopped caring if they saw him that he would return to Commercial architecture. His youngest is now 16 and the firm has taken on select commercial projects for clients that are building their own projects. These clients are long time friends and with the close relationship, we now feel comfortable moving back into commercial.
The firm has been lucky to continue to grow after Covid both in size and project size.
