The Office of Physical Plant, part of Penn State's Finance and Business organization, is seeking a Senior Architect. Reporting to the University Architect, this position is part of the broader Physical Plant team that programs, designs, and constructs capital projects as well as maintains landscapes and facilities. The position works in close “concert” with the University Architect, collaborating with 3rd-party architectural consultants and customers (building users) on project design approvals, approving systems and materials, and architectural oversight for projects of all sizes at all University locations.

Primary duties include:
Collaborating with 3rd-party architectural consultants and customers (building users) on project design approvals and providing general architectural oversight. Oversight includes projects of all types and sizes at all University locations.
Reviewing project plans to ensure adherence to University design standards
Reviewing and developing updates to University design standards
Providing architectural research and/or assist with the development of design concepts or feasibility studies
Developing presentations to attain design approvals
Serving on or leading University committees or initiatives, as needed
Evaluating, enhancing, and updating current practices and University design standards
Participating or assisting in the architect/consultant selection processes
Reviewing projects and existing buildings for code compliance
Providing on-site assistance, including during construction, to ensure compliance with design intent
The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate in an inclusive manner with other Office of Physical Plant staff, staff in other University units, faculty, professional consultants, and the university community. The successful candidate possesses a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal oversight.
The position typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher in Architecture or related discipline or higher plus five years of related experience. Experience with delivering projects for, or overseeing projects for, higher education institutions is preferred. Secondarily, experience at similar institutional entities would be considered. A professional license as a Registered Architect, in any state, is required. LEED AP accreditation, or similar sustainability experience, is preferred.

This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver’s license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
