Under general direction and in compliance with standard operating procedures and policies, assists with administering the City’s architectural design guidelines, downtown design guidelines, historic preservations guidelines, and other related ordinances. Assists the liaison to the Design Review Board (DRB) with reports and recommendations regarding architecture and historic properties. Works with developers to improve compliance of proposed developments with adopted City plans, regulations, and design guidelines. Administers the land management ordinances and related architectural design guidelines, with particular emphasis on the City’s Design Guidelines for Preservation Overlay Districts. Researches and prepares amendments to the design guidelines as needed. Investigates violations of the development ordinances. Reviews development proposals to ensure compliance with development regulations. Provides technical assistance to City staff and public regarding development regulations. Attends board and community meetings that extend beyond the normal work schedule.
Bachelor’s degree in architecture, urban planning, landscape architecture or related field.
Over two (2) years of experience focused on architecture, landscape architecture, urban planning, or historic preservation.
Must meet professional development requirements for Local Planning or Zoning Officials per SC Code 6-29-1310.
Master’s degree in a planning or design related field.
SC Architectural license or license in a related field.
