The Senior Architect performs code reviews of construction documents for regulatory compliance. Reporting to Associate Architect/Bureau Director in the Bureau of Architecture and Engineering Facility Planning. Duties include: 1. Reviews the project development during the schematic design and design development phases of the project, including meeting with clients and consultants and providing assistance. 2. Review highly technical designs, plans, and details. 3. Review highly technical architectural/engineering reports and studies. 4. Provide technical assistance and recommendations to unit staff, NYSDOH field staff and client representatives. 5. Perform independent, in-depth investigations of specific problems including architectural/engineering analysis and provide recommendations. 6. Consult with regulatory agencies regarding interpretations and applications. 7. Monitor the progress provided by facilities’ professional consultants and meet to review and assist them in their submissions. 8. Perform periodic site visits as required on projects under construction and review technical issues that could affect life safety and programmatic issues. 9. Prepare reports for management and clients. 10. Assist in the development, compilation, and distribution of technical data. 11. Remain current with local, state, and federal rules and regulations. 12.Assist and manage the policies and procedures efficacy and quality in the day to day operations within and outside the bureau. Other duties as assigned will include a Assisting NYSDOH management in the development of policies and regulations, develop, document, and implement procedures. Assess, develop, and implement internal controls, and oversee the review and testing of same as well as undertake special assignments as directed.
Tranfer Candidates: One year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as a Senior Architect, G-24.
Provisional Candidates: Open Competitive: Currently licensed and registered as a Professional Architect in NYS.
Provisional Promotion: Current NYS employee with one year of permanent or contingent-permanent competitive service as an Assistant Architect. Candidates must possess a current NYS Architect’s license and current registration
Preferred Qualifications: A Bachelor's degree in Architecture strongly preferred, plus two years relevant post-license experience. A NYS Code Enforcement Official certification and experience in health care design, including but not limited to Hospitals, Outpatient Facilities, Surgery Centers, Primary Care, and Behavioral Health.
