Position Description and Responsibilities
We are seeking a full-time Sr. Project Manager with responsibility for studio operations in our Phoenix office location. In this role you will split your time approximately 60/40 (projects/operations) with a heavier split initially on operations for the first 6-12 months. It is anticipated as an in-person role with some flexibility for remote work each week if desired and coordinated with project teams.
Studio Operations: This role will be working directly with our project managers with a focus on project financial planning, staffing, project management and operational efficiencies. This role will be collaborative providing a variety of management and administrative support to the Principals and Project Managers including preparing and maintaining PM deliverables and financial documents for project tracking/billing and reporting with firmwide systems. Our ideal candidate understands a variety of design processes, methods of project delivery and differences in staff based on distinctive processes and timelines and is a problem solver that thrives in a team environment and can adapt quickly and effectively to project issues that arise with an appreciation and focus on design opportunities in all projects.
Sr Project Manager: You'll manage a variety of scale projects in planning, designing, illustrating, and providing technical documents for various projects. You'll have the opportunity to manage teams and consultants, developing and refining design concepts and leading the development of technical documents. You will act as primary liaison between all parties involved, bringing the visions of our clients to life. You'll also oversee project teams to ensure compliance in metrics for schedule, energy performance, financial performance, and design excellence.
Primary responsibilities of the position:
Develops and maintains project plans including staffing; plans for new, renovation, graphic, interior work, business development, etc. for the studio
Works with all Principals and Project Managers to ensure all contracts and fee proposals are prepared accordingly.
Assist in the resolution of contract change orders, owner directed changes for all projects
Manages project plans to ensure that resources are effectively allocated for production of design and contract drawings
Assist with identifying need for additional service request and assist PMs with development and management of these services
Work with project teams as needed to assist in monthly budget/staffing tracking
Works with Project Managers to support adherence to budgets, monitoring all project earnings, collections and expenditures
Works with leadership to achieve revenue and profitability goals related to project delivery
Monitors project performance against project plan and recommends adjustments when necessary.
Teach and mentor staff in Project Management and technical expertise, with an emphasis on development of project management and discipline lead staff
Reviews and monitors project work plans including milestones, workflow, staffing and project budgets
Collaborates with project managers and project team to define and communicate project specific procedures and forms (quality documentation, etc.)
Strategize with local studio management on the sharing of staff cross studio; develop understanding of staff skillset and opportunities for growth
Assist local studio with managing work flow of projects and staff; ability to think strategically about hiring needs or staff sharing dependent on known work and potential
Work with firmwide Managing Principals regarding staffing coordination needs
We are Seeking Candidates with:
12+ years' experience as an architectural project manager and or operations manager.
Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture, Master’s preferred.
Licensure required
Preference for experience from design-focused firms
Project leadership role requiring engagement with and providing direction to all other project managers and staff.
Strong communication, scheduling, and client management skills
Demonstrates a high level of initiative and proactiveness in mitigating risks and recognizing resolutions.
Experience managing high design projects, clients, consultants and mentoring project teams
Excellent at multi-tasking, understanding complex project details while moving teams and outcomes forward
Ability to create project plans and manage project staff billable time
Ability to meet client budget and design expectations
Candidates must thrive in an interdisciplinary environment and be flexible to support numerous teams in any project phase
