Our firm’s work ranges throughout the U.S. and abroad; the firm’s preservation work is primarily focused in Texas and surrounding states. Our new construction programs have been in twenty-six states. We are seeking a Project Architect/Manager for our preservation studio, and a Senior Project Architect for our institutional buildings studios (separate Job Listing with roles in both New Design and Preservation studios). Our firm is established and invested in the communities we work with, enjoying long- standing client relationships and repeat work. We have flexible work at office/home capability. Senior Architect/General Architecture Studio
This is an opportunity for a full-time senior /technical position with a talented team. Komatsu Architecture is a mid-sized firm, with opportunities to experience working on projects from Programming through Construction Administration. Responsibilities include managing all aspects of projects, working directly with clients, while reporting directly to the principal-in-charge. As a role of Project Manager/Senior Architect, you will oversee project architects and support staff as well as be an active production team member. Our firm size requires that this also be a direct project participation position, including technical and production skills (more than solely a project administrating manager).

Requirements for position:
Licensed Architect with a 15 yrs or equivalent Bachelor’s degree in Architecture – 4 yr degree requires a Master’s Degree in Architecture (focus on Architecture or Historic Preservation)
Technical skills in Revit and AutoCAD as part of a recent production team
15+ years of experience minimum required
Previous experience in architectural project management of complex rehabilitation or historic projects (special projects category – repurpose and new facility components) including development of all phases of planning (including master plans and grant applications), programming, design, construction documents, bidding, and contract administration, including clear communication skills with clients, consultants, and contractors
Experience with the public review process, regulatory agencies, and as applicable, historic preservation reviewing entities (SHPOs); local commissions and boards
Knowledge of building and life safety codes
Must be able to review and edit technical specifications (outsourced Spec firm is used)
Must be able to prepare a variety of studies and reports, including, but not limited to: existing conditions assessments; feasibility studies; code analysis; historic structure reports; coordinate with in-house facility programming specialists
Detail oriented and have a technical understanding of the construction experience (demonstrated knowledge of the technical aspects of new design and building technologies, historic-age building techniques is important); mid-century design knowledge and technologies is a plus
Strong leadership, communications and organizational/people skills
Self-starter; Ability to multi-task, create and maintain project work plans, schedules, and budgets
Collaborative personality to excel in team situations is essential
Proven ability to manage clients and meet their expectations
Proficiency and project experience utilizing support software Microsoft Office suite, AutoCAD, and Revit (we use Newforma Project and Information Management software
Project experience with Secretary of Interiors Standards for Historic Rehabilitation
Experience in collaborating with material conservation consultants in the treatment of interior and exterior building components
Travel required, primarily within Texas for Preservation Services; US and International travel if general facility project experience
US citizen or permanent US resident, must possess a valid US driver’s license and be able to obtain a security clearance to work on/at US government sites – General Services Administration GSA (US Courthouses, tenant facilities such as US Marshal’s Office; Department of Justice); US Department of the Interior; Department of Homeland Security; US Department of Defense DOD Installations; US Postal Service historic properties; and others if needed
